Stretching Shiatsu is the fusion of two techniques designed to improve your well-being and increase body flexibility in everyday life and in sports
Stretching, like breathing, is an instinctive activity of our body—even more so than running or jumping. Just consider the actions we perform when we first wake up in the morning, or when, after an intense workday perhaps spent sitting in the same position, we stretch and lengthen. These actions create a gradual transition from inactivity to a life in motion.
Stretching is the result of the oldest known forms of physical education, such as Yoga, Qi Gong, and Tai Chi. These practices have always sought to harmonize the entire individual, thereby increasing awareness, flexibility, and well-being.
The quest for balance is central to scientific studies applied to sport. Such studies aim to understand and explain the mechanisms that are in harmony with the laws of nature.
Shiatsu is a Japanese technique that has its origins in ancient Chinese massage and practices. Through manual pressure on specific points of the body surface, it stimulates the organism's natural ability to recover and self-heal.
The basis of Stretching Shiatsu consists of performing Makko-ho exercises—stretches developed by Masunaga to allow the vital energy, called Qi, to flow harmoniously—combined with stretching positions assisted by finger or palm pressure on the areas being stretched, as developed by Namikoshi.
Over the years, the addition of transformative and improving elements to the technique, such as conscious breathing, guided relaxation, strengthening exercises, free exercises, and proprioception exercises, have made it even more complete and effective.
The ultimate goal of combining these exercises is to achieve the general well-being of the body, also through the effective lengthening of the musculo-tendinous system.
